The ACC has plenty of familiar contenders, but Wake Forest is making a strong case that it deserves to be part of the CFP conversation. The Demon Deacons have put together an impressive 7-1 start and are quickly becoming one of the most dangerous teams in the conference.
Under head coach Jake Dickert, Wake Forest has taken a major step forward. The Demon Deacons are 5-1 in ACC play and currently sit near the top of the conference standings, behind only undefeated Miami.
Wake Forest Is Playing Its Best Football
One of the biggest reasons for Wake Forest’s success has been its ability to dominate on both sides of the football. The offense is averaging nearly 40 points per game, giving the Demon Deacons the firepower to compete with anyone in the ACC.
The defense has been just as impressive. Wake Forest has allowed only 17.9 points per game, showing that this team is capable of winning high scoring shootouts and defensive battles.
The Demon Deacons have also put together some convincing victories recently. They defeated California 41-7 before following it up with a dominant 51-7 win over Virginia. Those performances showed just how dangerous this team can be when everything is clicking.
A Chance to Change the ACC Race
Miami remains the team to beat, but Wake Forest has an opportunity to make things interesting. The Demon Deacons already lost to the Hurricanes earlier this season, meaning a potential rematch could carry enormous championship implications.
Games against SMU, Georgia Tech and Duke will also be important as Wake Forest looks to finish the regular season strong.
Wake Forest may not have entered the season as an ACC favorite, but that could change quickly. With an explosive offense, a reliable defense and a coaching staff that has this team believing, the Demon Deacons have the opportunity to shock the conference and make a serious run at a ACC championship.
