Boise State Still Has a Real Chance to Make the College Football Playoff

Must read

The Boise State Broncos are keeping their College Football Playoff hopes alive, and after the first set of rankings, they are in a much better position than many expected. With the regular season entering its final stretch, Boise State has an opportunity to earn another appearance in the 12 team playoff.

The Broncos currently sit at 7-1 overall and 4-0 in Pac-12 play. They were ranked No. 25 in the initial College Football Playoff rankings, making them the only Group of Six team included in the committee’s top 25.

That ranking is extremely important because the highest-ranked Group of Six conference champion receives an automatic playoff berth.

Boise State Controls Its Own Destiny

Head coach Spencer Danielson has the Broncos playing excellent football. Boise State has won seven consecutive games after suffering a season-opening loss to Oregon.

The Broncos have also been impressive offensively, scoring at least 30 points in all seven victories. Running back Dylan Riley has been a major reason for that success, leading the nation with 1,049 rushing yards.

If Boise State continues winning, it will have a strong opportunity to remain ahead of the other Group of Six contenders.

Competition Is Still a Concern

Although Boise State currently holds the advantage, the Broncos cannot afford to overlook their competition.

New Mexico is also 7-1 and has remained undefeated in Mountain West play. UTSA is another team that could become a threat to Boise State’s playoff hopes.

The Broncos will need to keep winning while hoping those competing programs stumble.

Another Playoff Appearance Is Within Reach

Boise State is scheduled to face Colorado State on November 7 before hosting Oregon State on November 14. Those games will be important opportunities to strengthen its position.

The Broncos already made the College Football Playoff in 2024, and another appearance would further establish the program as a national contender.

Boise State still has work to do, but its playoff hopes are very much alive. If Danielson’s team continues winning and captures the Pac-12 championship, the Broncos could be heading back to the biggest stage in college football.
