The Weekend Schedule Is Set
The INDYCAR season rolls into Wisconsin this weekend for a doubleheader that decides everything. FOX Sports Motor Sports reports the first race, the Snap-on Makers and Fixers 250, starts with coverage at 2:30 p.m. ET on Saturday, Aug. 29. The green flag drops at 2:50 p.m. The second race, the Snap-on Milwaukee Mile 250, kicks off Sunday, Aug. 30, with FOX coverage beginning at 1 p.m. ET and the green flag at 1:20 p.m. Both events happen at the historic Milwaukee Mile, the world’s oldest continuously operating speedway.
The Odds Say Chaos
Bettors at FanDuel Sportsbook have Josef Newgarden as the favorite for Saturday’s race at 3/1 odds. Alex Palou sits at 17/5 despite holding a massive 91-point lead in the standings. Palou enters with 553 points, while Kyle Kirkwood trails with 443. Christian Lundgaard is third with 443 points. The odds board suggests the track might break the leader’s grip. Newgarden won at Phoenix and Gateway this season, but he knows the Milwaukee Mile is a different beast. He told reporters, “You have to figure out how to get through traffic,” and added, “That’s always going to be the case on a short oval.”
Why The Leader Is In Danger
Palou has never won at Milwaukee. He finished fifth and 19th in the two races there in 2024. Last year, he took second place. The track is only 1.015 miles with just 9 degrees of banking. Cars cannot stay flat through the corners. The short oval drives more like a road course and rewards rotation over pure speed. This setup creates a perfect storm for the championship leader to lose control. One bad pass or one blocked line could cost Palou his fifth title before the season ends. Newgarden might not need to win the whole weekend. He just needs to win one race and hope Palou makes a mistake. The 91-point gap looks safe on paper, but the track layout does not care about points. It only cares about who can navigate the traffic best.
Final Weekend Of Ovals
Sunday’s race closes the final oval weekend of the 2026 season. If Palou can survive the traffic and the odds, he can clinch the championship right here. The series leaves the Midwest after this doubleheader. Watch the action on FOX or follow the results on FOX Sports for the latest updates. The green flag for Saturday drops at 2:50 p.m. ET.
