Hurricanes Line Up for Massive 2026 Season After Playoff Run

The high after the heartbreak

The 2025 season was a wild ride for anyone following Miami. We saw a team that went 10-2 in the regular season and fought all the way to the National Championship Game. They took down giants like Ohio State and Texas A&M. It ended in a loss to Indiana, but the grit was there. Now, the 2026 schedule looks much easier on paper. The big names like Florida and Louisville are gone. This is the moment to finally grab that trophy.

Big holes in the trenches

It is not all easy wins, though. The team has some serious work to do on the line. According to Yahoo Sports CFB, the Hurricanes lost four starters from the offensive line to the NFL. That includes first-round pick Francis Mauigoa at tackle. Coach Mario Cristobal and coach Alex Mirabal have a huge job ahead of them. They have to build a new group from scratch. We might see Ryan Rodriguez starting at center, and players like Matthew McCoy and Samson Okunlola will stay in the mix at guard. The depth is still a question mark.

The defense lost some heavy hitters too. Rueben Bain Jr. and Akheem Mesidor both moved to the NFL after great seasons. Both players were first-round picks in the April draft. To fix this, Miami brought in Damon Wilson II from Missouri. He had nine sacks last year. We also have guys like Armondo Blount and Marquise Lightfoot ready to step up. If the defensive line holds, the rest of the team can shine.

Can the offense stay elite?

The talent at the skill positions is scary. Running back Mark Fletcher Jr. is a star after his 517-yard playoff run. Wide receiver Malachi Toney is also back after a record-breaking freshman year. Even the quarterback room looks strong with Darian Mensah joining the group. He comes from Duke with plenty of wins under his belt. I think this group can still be a nightmare for opposing coaches.

I am not sure if the line can protect them, though. You cannot run a great offense if your quarterback is running for his life. The 2024 unit was the best in the country, but that was different. If the new linemen can stay healthy, we might see another dominant year. The talent is there, but the grit will be tested early.

A path to the top

The 2026 road is a mix of easy days and hard tests. There is a trip to Clemson and a game at Notre Dame. But look at the wins from last year. The Hurricanes beat FSU, UF, and several other huge programs.

That prediction was close, but I think the 2026 team is better. The recruiting classes have been top-tier for three years straight. With the talent we have, 12-0 is not out of the question.
