Stop worrying about the draft picks. I know we all held our breath when the Cowboys moved up to grab Caleb Downs with the 11th overall pick, but the kid is actually doing it. He isn’t just a name on a roster. He is playing like a guy who belongs in the middle of this defense right now.
The rookie is meeting every standard
The hype around Downs is real, and the tape shows it. According to reports, the expectations for this young star were massive because of that high draft position. According to reports, the Cowboys’ decision to move up a spot created high expectations that Downs has consistently satisfied. It is rare to see a rookie settle in this fast. The kid is versatile, too. Archer adds that Downs is capable of covering shifty receivers in the slot and defending the run, while also operating on the back end.
A much needed edge
Our defense has been soft lately. We have plenty of stars on offense with Dak Prescott and CeeDee Lamb, but you can’t win games if you let everyone score. That is why Downs is such a massive piece of the puzzle. He plays with a chip on his shoulder that this unit has been missing for a long time.
The future in Dallas
I expect to see him out there in the thick of things very soon. Archer forecasts that Downs will start during the team’s first September game. If he keeps playing with this much intensity, the rest of the league is going to have a hard time moving the ball against us. He is already proving he can handle the pressure of being a top-ten talent in a big market.
